Alex Acomb is a freelance British cellist based in London. He studied for his Performance Masters at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he was awarded a scholarship.
Alex has performed and freelanced with numerous orchestras including National Symphony Orchestra, Ireland. He also performs with orchestras around London including Orpheus Sinfonia and London City Orchestra, where he is Principal Cello. Alex has also performed in numerous festivals around the UK including recently Dorset Opera Festival.
Alex has played in masterclasses with internationally renowned musicians such as Andras Keller, Jonathan Aasgaard, Adrien Brendel & Sandy Baillie. He has also received chamber music coaching and mentoring from members of the Endellion and Takács Quartets among others.
Alex studied at GSMD under Tim Lowe, and previously with Sue Lowe, Nick Byrne and Jayne Spencer. He previously studied Music at Durham University, graduating with First Class Honours. He plays on a 1900s Collin-Mézin cello, which has been generously loaned to him.
